Writing Scaffolding: Graphic Organizers with Sentence Stems for Mini-Essays

This Writing Scaffolding consists of nine graphic organizers with all of the major types of writing organizational patterns. Each graphic organizer also contains sentence stems to help students use the information from the graphic organizer to write a mini-essay about the topic.

Use the sentence stems for students who need a lot of writing scaffolding until they are comfortable using just a graphic organizer, and then writing without any scaffolding.

The graphic organizers are also a great tool for reading. Students can fill in the graphic organizer as they read. Information can then be transferred from the graphic organizer to a summary paragraph using the sentence stems. Great for students who struggle with summarizing or note-taking!
